Charles has over 25 years’ property experience across all sectors of the market and for the last 16 has increasingly specialised in the student accommodation market.
Charles joined the Unite Group in 2000 to set up the Leeds office and was responsible for the identification and acquisition and subsequent development of sites throughout the North of England. Ultimately, he was responsible, with Rupert Wyard, for the management of a development pipeline of over 5,500 student residential beds and associated commercial accommodation.
On leaving Unite, Charles initially joined Teesland and was in control of the fund and asset management for the University Capital Trust (UCT), a specialist student accommodation fund, with £50 million of assets and a further £50 million in the development pipeline.
Later, as Development Director for Harrisons and Simons, he was responsible for the development management of a 500 bed student scheme in York in partnership with York St John University and a number of mixed-use town centre regeneration schemes throughout the UK.
Charles joined forces with Campus in 2013 and recently has been working closely with our JV partner Peveril Securities to progress the King Stables Road site in Edinburgh. This exciting mixed use site situated beneath Edinburgh Castle within the Old Town part of Edinburgh in a UNESCO world heritage site, secured resolution to grant planning in Summer of 2106 and will comprise up to 166 Student Studios, 100 bed Hotel, 49 Residential flats and associated Commercial and Arts accommodation.
