Wattle St Ultimo

Wattle Street

Jon Whittle negotiated and acquired an Option in January 2012 to purchase a large plot of land in Ultimo Sydney from a car repair workshop business that had occupied the land since 1955.

The site is immediately opposite the University of Technology Sydney, TAFE and approximately 15 mins walk south of Sydney CBD.

The urbanest team led by Jon then subsequently designed and obtained Development Approval from Sydney City Council a 12,500m2 development ranging from three up to eight storeys  providing 665 beds and extensive internal amenity space including a landscaped courtyard with bbq facilities, communal kitchen, lounge, fully equipped gym, bicycle and motorcycle storage.

The land was subsequently purchased in April 2013 and development commenced immediately under an early works package including archaeological and environmental investigations, site establishment, demolition and asbestos removal. This challenging development has been kept on program despite the original contractor entering administration and a revised contract price being agreed with a new contractor within four weeks of starting negotiations.

With a gross development value in excess of $100m upon completion, this will represent the largest privately operated student residence to be developed in Sydney which is to be run in partnership with The University of Technology, Sydney under a Nominations and Reservation Agreement.

Practical completion is scheduled for November 2014 for commissioning ahead of the 2015 academic intake.
