Jon Whittle has led the urbanest Australia development team in purchasing and securing development approval for a 23 storey student tower in a core central CBD location in Melbourne close to Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and University of Melbourne.

As part of the development process, Jon led the design and planning process through two applications to ensure that the building was efficient, viable and functional for the needs of student customers. Also part of Jon’s remit was to ensure that investor approval was granted as part of a total equity deployment of USD$260m to urbanest Australia.

Work commenced on the site in February 2013 by Broad APM with a total construction value in excess of $40m on an 18 month program to provide 467 beds in time for February 2015 student intake. The state of the art building will provide accommodation arranged as ensuite share apartments, studios and twin share rooms.

Upon completion the building will be valued in excess of $70m.

urbanest La Trobe features upgraded specification in all rooms including state of the art kitchen facilities to all flats and studios, high quality flooring throughout and air conditioning. On the roof, the development will include a ‘sky lounge and gym’ for use by all occupiers.
