Acting in an executive management role in the capacity as Head of Development, Jon Whittle has led the development at Cleveland Street in Sydney

The first of a new pipeline of properties totalling approximately 2,300 student beds currently being developed and to be operated across Sydney and Melbourne Australia by urbanest Australia.

The land at Cleveland St was purchased from a private owner occupier in July 2012 after an extensive period of design development and securing Development Approval from New South Wales Department of Land and Planning. The 467 bed development, arranged as a mixture of shared apartments with ensuite, twin shared rooms and studios is close to the University of Sydney in the popular student area of Chippendale.

The $30m construction contract with Built Pty Ltd commenced in November 2012 after carrying substantial early works which included remediating the site, demolition of extensive buildings, retaining part of the existing facade to meet heritage requirements and working over a major sewer which dissected the site.

The five storey development has been designed with state of the art recreational and studying facilities including a large social area with expansive courtyard and lawn area, a dedicated games room, a large cinema room, on site gym, communal kitchen with outside BBQs and numerous study areas with Mac stations and printing facilities.

As part of the development approval, the buildings is being designed and constructed to meet 4* greenstar standards ensuring that this development is one of the most sustainable student developments in Sydney.

Practical completion is due in December 2013 after a 14 month build program with operational commencement from February 2014.
