Development

Campus Development Management is involved in the direct development of student accommodation schemes alongside its development and funding partners.

Campus has successfully established strategic joint ventures to deliver market-leading schemes, increasingly including a mix of other uses (residential, retail, hotel and commercial) in several cities.

Four schemes in Exeter have been secured over the last six years with one of our principal development partners, Yelverton Properties.

The first site on Sidwell Street, in a popular student area, generated a 100 bed, boutique residence together with a modern food retail store at street level.

Moorfield Group supported our second, much larger 492-bed scheme, The Printworks, which was successfully delivered and let for the 2013/14 academic year. The scheme was subsequently sold to Blackrock in 2014.

The third scheme, Cricket Field Court, was a complex enabling development delivering both student accommodation and a state of the art two-storey cricket pavilion for Exeter Cricket Club (Devon County Ground). Located in an enviable position opposite the University of Exeter, the 159-bed scheme was forward funded by our investment partners, Curlew Capital and delivered, fully pre-let, in July 2016.

Our fourth scheme in Exeter is another complex enabling development in conjunction with Exeter City Football Club (St. James Park) which will see major improvements to the ground including the replacement of the Stagecoach football stand and the development of a 312 bed scheme on adjoining land. Delivery is anticipated in 2019.

Detailed case studies for the completed Exeter projects are provided.

In addition to our partnership with Yelverton Properties, development schemes have been progressed in other parts of the UK, including Sheffield and Edinburgh.

Provincial House, a Grade II listed building together with surrounding land adjoining the Northern Campus of the University of Sheffield was progressed through a complex design and planning process and subsequently bought and funded by Empiric Student Property. Construction of the 107 studios has since started and completion is anticipated in advance of the 2017 academic year.

Campus and Peveril Securities have now secured planning permission for a major mixed-use scheme at King’s Stables Yard, under the ramparts of Edinburgh Castle. The scheme will include 160 prestige student studio apartments within a short walk of the University of Edinburgh together with a 100-bed hotel, 49 residential units, A3, Art’s Quarter and public realm.

We continue to explore new development opportunities across the UK.
